by using multiple modalities to get the most effective results. And Niko’s work doesn’t end when the session is over; he always assigns clients a bit of “homework” to do between sessions. “I remind clients that we all carry powerful healing abilities, and when they’re tapped into they can promote greater health and well-being,” he explains. “I teach all my clients that there must be a delicate balance between their busy lives; work; school; or any other high-stress area, and their well-being. Massage therapy is often considered a luxury, but as far as health is concerned, it’s a necessity. We should treat our bodies like an instrument and fine tune them to perform.” During a typical session with Niko, clients will experience a range of modalities such as Reiki, Shiatsu and trigger point therapy to correct imbalances and promote tranquility. “I enjoy my work because it comes from the heart,” says Niko. “A person’s body is their sacred space, and to invite another into that sacred space is courageous. I feel I must honor that the only way I know how: with love and respect.”

Bistra Milovansky

Born to a Yogi father and non Yogi mother in Bulgaria I grew up balancing between the daily reality of the material world and the quest for spiritual identity and life purpose. Today as a practicing NYC lawyer, Tibetan Buddhist and a lifelong meditator, I draw inspiration and wisdom from both – the modern life of a NYC professional and the ancient spiritual traditions & many yoga lineages I research and study. The Kundalini yoga classes I teach (as taught by Yogi Bhajan) are based on the science of yoga breathing, the healing power of human voice, sound and movement and offer a roadmap in understanding the medicinal wisdom of our own body. Meditation, Body sculpting sets, Mantra chanting and Dance are the main elements of a yoga class. Dream Gong and Tibetan Singing Bowls playing during class add to the healing experience and raise the vibrational frequency of the group to allow energetic alignment and chakra tune up. My goal is to help the yoga students develop their own spiritual practice and design the yogic lifestyle rituals of urban yogis and yogini that resonate with their individuality, support and empower their pursuit of sustainable happiness and holistic lifestyle.

STEVEN PRESTIANNI (ANANDABHAIRAVA)

Yoga Instructor

Steve began studying under the guidance of Sadguru Sri Mahayogi Paramahamsa, founder of the Mahayogi Yoga Mission, in 1996. He also had a definitive meeting with Sri Swami Satchidananda, founder of the Integral Yoga Institute, in 1988. Both schools profess the knowledge of Raja Yoga (the eight-limbed Royal Path), utilizing a classical form of Hatha for the third limb (asana or posture).

He instructs classes as he learned from Mahayogi, holding each posture for an extended period of time, focusing on the exact alignment for each individual dependent upon their present physical capabilities, focusing on a specific rhythmic breathing pattern, and focusing attentively with the eyes for each posture, to acutely increase ones ability to concentrate. Every posture is then alternated with repose in savasana (also called “the corpse” or “rest pose”). The two hour class concludes with approximately 10 minutes of pranayama (breath retention, or control) and a 15 minute seated silent meditation. Though the class is intense, it operates as a “one room school house”, open to all levels of practitioners, from first time beginners, to those physically challenged, to those highly advanced. Each will receive modifications appropriate to their level of practice. Steve’s teaching credentials include 4 years for the Mahayogi Yoga Mission, 2 years at the Kearny Correctional Facility with incarcerated women, 3 years for the Multiple Sclerosis Society with wheel-chair bound, chair ability, and mat capable members, 2 years at the Earth School with primary school children, 1 year with AHRP for those mentally-handicapped, including training the staff at AHRP to work independent of his person, 10 years and running with a community class run by donation at the Sixth Street Community Center in the Lower East Side, and 2 years and running at Greenhouse Holistic. He also teaches privately from his own home in the Lower East Side.

Kelly Richards

Therapeutic Bodywork

Kelly has been practicing for the last 3 years. She specializes in deep tissue work combined with trigger point release therapy. She believes your health is your greatest investment. “A lot of people think massage is just a luxury treat… There’s no denying it is a treat, however, most don’t realize it’s required body maintenance just like exercising regularly.” She believes we must honor our temple in all aspects. Staying conscious of one’s nutrition & exercise practices are expected but it’s just as vital to stay conscious of how you’re taking care of your muscular system. It doesn’t stop there though, massage affects the systems as a whole with many health benefits. She believes awareness & listening to your body are key in maintaining good health. It also takes a little self discipline, motivation & work. She plans to further her holistic practices by pursuing energy work & eventually an Ayurvedic education. “I want to help guide people into a healthy lifestyle and if they’re already living one then I want to help them maintain it.

“I want to be there to help them maintain balance of body, mind and soul and with each session feel renewed, rejuvenated and encouraged to keep loving themselves from their inner core.”

Beginning with a degree in Psychology from Fordham University, she expanded her knowledge in healthcare through studying nutrition, and cultivating a spiritual and meditative life. Through internships and assistantships, Daphne has gained valuable experience in many styles of acupuncture including Traditional, Japanese, Five Element, Esoteric, and Cosmetic. Her own practice is an intuitive blend of these approaches, based on the needs and goals of each individual client.

“I am really passionate about healing: the deep, holistic, inside-and-out, past-present-future kind. I think that the biggest part of healing anything is our ability to be present in the moment. I mean it in the innermost sense: when we are in a quiet and focused place in our minds, where we approach change with confidence, and when we are honest with ourselves about what parts of us must evolve to facilitate our healing.” Daphne has been privileged to be a part of her clients’ paths to awakening health, growth, clarity, and vitality.
